I Can See
So for the second time they called in the man who had been blind and told him, “God should get the glory for this, because we know this man Jesus is a sinner.”
“I don’t know whether He is a sinner,” the man replied. “But I know this: I was blind, and now I can see!”
John 9:24-25 (NLT)
The story in John 9 gives an account of a man born blind who was healed by Jesus. The religious leaders thought that Jesus was a sinner because He was healing someone on the Sabbath day, thus apparently disobeying the tradition of not working on the Sabbath. The formerly blind man wasn’t sure whether Jesus was doing anything wrong. He could only speak concerning what he had just experienced.
We don’t have to know everything about the Bible or be able to answer all the questions about God to share the story of what He’s done in our lives. We just need to share what we’ve experienced with Him and the changes He’s made in us. The healed man wasn’t sure who Jesus was, or what was a sin, but he knew that he had been blind all his life, and after an experience with Jesus, now he could see.
Before I became a believer in Jesus, I was a self-centered and anxious child. I was nervous that I might say something that might cause my Mom to be upset with me. I would cry if my Mom was not at the curb to pick me up after school because I thought I might have made her so mad that she might not be coming, and I was scared to be alone. After I gave my life to Jesus, I had peace that He would take care of me in this life and that even if I died, I would have eternal life with Jesus forever. So, I told my Mom she no longer needed to pick me up after school. I began to ride the bus home and even started walking home because I trusted that Jesus would take care of me.
I didn’t know much about the Bible at the time, but I believed that there was a God who loved me so much that He sent His only Son, Jesus, to die for me so I could have eternal life. I knew that my crippling anxiety was replaced with a peace that goes beyond understanding. I used to be anxious, but now I have peace.
